update of manuscript - round 2
This updates the manuscript in order to address to editor's comments from 12 Nov 2021:
Dear authors, The responses you provided address well most reviewers' comments. One common comment from the three reviewers is the detailed technical descriptions of the MPR tool that may not be interested to all readers, and the lack of hypotheses or research questions in the manuscript. The answers you provided are correct, GMD model description papers have the objective to provide detailed technical descriptions of models that are in general very difficult to publish in other scientific journals. However, I do feel that there is a mix of content in this manuscript that is of interest of two separate audiences, a more generalist hydrology-modelling community, and a more specialized scientific programming audience. It is not necessarily clear what parts of the manuscript are of interest to one audience or the other. Also, the manuscript does not clearly state the goal. To remedy this issue, I propose a simple fix. In the last paragraph of the introduction, you can add a few sentences describing the overall objective of the manuscript and a road map for different audiences. For example, something like: "The overall goal of this manuscript is to .... It can be of interest to 'audience 1' and 'audience 2'". Then continue with text starting in Line 89. Afterwards, provide the road map: "Readers interested in [audience 1] can read sections x, y, z without loss of general understanding. For those interested in implementation details we recommend especial attention to sections a, b, c." Of course you can phrase this in a different way, but the important point is that you provide the overall aim of the manuscript with the target audiences, and a road map for these different audiences.
