are flagging functions supposed to override target?

I may just have missed that change in general policy - so this may not be a bug - but i remember once we overcame for flagging functions with an existing target set, to assign the flags resulting from the run, to the target variable, but not to override the target data.... i noticed thats not working and the target data gets overridden: is that agreed upon behavior by now, or is this a bug?

Yes, this is intended behavior. The way it works is, that we first call copyField(field, target, overwrite=True) before a flagging function is called with flagFoo(target, ...)
